Telstra 360 Streaming

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2018 (Los Angeles, CA) and Telstra Vantage 2018 (Melbourne, VIC), 360 Streaming is an immersive VR experience which allows the user to stream LIVE and Video on Demand (VOD) content, as well as customize and select their viewing room theme. We have held events at the Festival of 5G (Gold Coast, QLD) where we sent a live stream along the beach from a KanDao Obsidian R 360 camera to Gear VR headsets. For other versions we have collaborated with Visbit to provide a much higher quality / optimized stream using foveated rendering, and are able to push a 6K stream to a 4K device (Gear VR, Oculus Go), and 8K content on the HTC VIVE Focus. We have also integrated video streaming analytics using Conviva.

For the next iterations we are looking at incorporating sporting event highlights and the ability to teleport to different vantage points allowing the user to change their perspective from a suite view, to lower level stadium seats, and on the field. Additionally we are integrating stats/analytics, social viewing, and food delivery services. Gaze heatmap analysis.

Concept Art

Below are quick Wacom sketches / photoshop composites to visualize what a personalized VR viewing room could look like. The client wanted to have a more conventional home base to start, but is open to adding more themes in the future. VR can give a claustrophobic feeling to some so I wanted to explore expansive environments. I wanted these environments to feel familiar and calming with elements of nature as opposed to sci-fi / futuristic.

Drive-in Theater Theme Concept

  • The user position is positioned on pillows in the truck bed

  • The movie screen can be used for a menu selection, and used to load standard video or 3D video.

  • When the user selects a title, the light dims, sun sets, and the stars and fireflies twinkle

Luxury Dubai Rooftop Bar Theme Concept

  • The user position starts seated on the couch but can teleport to other areas for mini-games, multi-channel viewing on sports bar screens.

  • A retractable screen emerges from the railing

  • The fountains in the distance, and the infinity pool surface animates to bring the environment to life
