Australian Open 2019 - Retail VR

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Kicking off a 3-year partnership with Tennis Australia, Infosys provided a 3-in-1 VR experience at the 2019 Australian Open. Located within the Infosys Fan Zone, Australian Open fans had the opportunity to play against the greatest tennis players in the world at a virtual Rod Laver Arena, watch the Australian Open live from on court via 360 Streaming, and shop for Australian Open merchandise and clothing at the Official AO Virtual Reality Store, all using the HTC VIVE Pro.

This 3-in-1 VR app developed with Unity, had a very short turnaround and was created within 1 months time.

Retail VR - the user is able to teleport around a virtual space, pick up and interact with different AO merchandise (built to scale, containing details of the shirt tag and embroidered logos), with the ability to add items to their shopping cart. When the user submits their order, the shopping cart link is emailed / sent via SMS to the users mobile phone to continue the check out process. The ordering system is in real-time and reflect products that are currently in stock.

The graffiti laneway (which is iconic of Melbourne) shopping concept that I came up with was ultimately chosen by the client. I lead the creative direction, and was scrum master in Palo Alto while collaborating across 4 time zones with teams in India, China, and our clients in Australia to deliver ahead of schedule. During development we doubled our team size and cross-trained new hires. Following the project I was awarded the Insta Award by the head of ICETS.

Sponsor Business Dev - I also worked on a business development VR app where potential sponsors could visualize their logos by selecting slots on the LED walls of Rod Laver Arena.

360 Streaming - I served as consultant with the teams in India and Australia on providing a 360 Streaming capability for LIVE and Video on Demand tennis content.

Crowd-sourced content.

To fill the AO virtual laneway shop with original street art work, we rolled out an Infosys company-wide graffiti contest.

Over 100 entries

We were truly impressed with the quality that was submitted within a 2-week timeframe. We chose the most interesting compositions that closely embodied the iconic Melbourne laneway street art scene.
